Acne PDT (Photodynamic Therapy)

A photodynamic treatment where a photosensitizer (such as ALA) is applied and then irradiated with a specific wavelength of light to generate reactive oxygen species within the sebaceous glands, killing acne bacteria (P. acnes) and selectively destroying the glands.

Indications

Moderate to severe inflammatory acnerecurrent acneantibiotic-resistant acne

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • photosensitivity (porphyria)
  • use of photosensitizing medications
  • planned exposure to strong sunlight within 48 hours after treatment
